And into the paper

Yes papers are still published and journalists still ring up folks for their opinion.

A few weeks ago Adam Gifford rang me asking for help with an intranet article he was writing.
Not knowing Adam from Adam I spoke to Dan Randow who had gave Adam my details, everything seemed on the up and up so I called Adam back, and now I'm in the paper. As the person who setup the 'Kiwi Intranets' group.

Well that may be overstating things a little - My name is mentioned in NZ Herald's pull out magazine called 'The Business' 25 June 2007. You won't find me in their online archives so I'll post the text of the article here.

Why bother blowing my own trumpet about this - well the great thing from my perspective was that, though not mentioned in the same sentence the other person asked for comment was Paul Reynolds.

Paul is one of my heroes. A big thinker, someone with a global outlook, and a wonderful way with words. I saw Paul speak at the Bright Star intranet conference last year (possibly the year before) and since then have tried to take on some of the ideas he espouses.

To try and return the favor of being cast in illustrious company I've added a couple of links to the Wikipedia Paul Reynolds entry, where Paul Reynolds "commentator and thinker" of Auckland was not listed.

Adam thanks for the opportunity to offer my opinion to a wider audience.
Paul thank you for leading the charge and fighting the good fight.

very touched by your comments - for me this 'internet thing" is such a brilliant framework for all sorts of new kwowledge and cultural practice. Better still, the tools and perspectives which will define its futire are open to us all - good luck with your intranet group - very happy to contribute if possible..

Yammer and puddles

Recently I was asked " What are the top 10 points you think are important to get across to staff at all levels in an organisation about Yammer? " My initial reaction was "Tough ask", mainly because I've seen great write ups on what organisations get out of Yammer but very few that talk directly to the user benefits. Many articles give the usual cop out "users can't see the point, until they get it" I admit I was in that boat when I started using Twitter, a public micro blogging platform. But just like they said "once I used it I got it". What they didn't say was that it took a while and it suits certain people better than others. Role Title on profiles

Today one of the people I follow on Twitter asked the following question. @ChristySeason Asking all #intranet tweeps: Does your company publish employees' titles on your employee directory/look up/phone book? In following Intranets Live I've been lucky enough to see some great intranets. As such I was able to reply to Christy with the following Nokia do Deloitte do (see the end of the post) Christy's question also prompted me to document my own intranet's profile page.
